Yesterday was an exciting day at the Creek. We got to celebrate two of our great programs: class buddies and our school garden. Once a month, 2nd and 5th grade pair up. Each 5th grader has a 2nd grade buddy. During these 30 minute lessons, the 5th grader helps guide the 2nd grader through a problem or listens to the 2nd grader read. It is so fun to watch the older kids mentor our younger Swifties.

Yesterday, our buddy pairs worked on planting our fall garden. The students were assigned one of these three lessons:
- Taking the temperature. Students learned how to use a thermometer, explored our greenhouse, and discussed how we can use the greenhouse for our garden.
- Reading seed packets. Students learned garden vocabulary words, such as sow, growing zone, and perennial. They created a chart to organize the information found on a variety of seed packets of lettuce, radishes, flowers, carrots, and more.
- Planting a garden. Students harvested seeds from our summer garden and then removed the old plants. Next, they planted kale, Swiss chard, red chard, and strawberries. They used yard sticks and meter sticks to carefully space the plants apart.
