Classroom teachers rely on parent involvement in the classroom, especially to plan and coordinate special learning experiences and activities. This is a great way for you to get directly involved in your child's classroom.
The grade parent is responsible for coordinating volunteers and supplies for special events throughout the year. Also, the grade parents should communicate (either through e-mail, phone, or letters sent home) about upcoming events in the class. Grade parents should help celebrate the teacher's birthday. In the mail room is a binder called "My Favorite Things." This will give you ideas about the teacher's likes
Classrooms can have more than one grade parent..
Work with teachers to identify the room parents in each classroom
Recruit "surrogate room parents" to support teachers if they don't have a grade parent
Plan and direct an informational meeting for grade parent volunteers
Work with Hospitality committee to coordinate activities during Teacher Appreciation Week
Provide list of grade parents to any committee who needs to recruit volunteers
