Whatever you do this week, we hope you and your family can take a deep breath and RELAX! It has been quite a school year and yet it is hard to believe that we have only 2 months left. We hope you can take this week to recharge your batteries and finish the year strong.
Please note that students return to school (virtual and Plan A) on Thursday, April 8. The school board changed Wednesday, April 7 to a Teacher Work Day. (They removed the Teacher Work Day on May 13.)
If you want your child to return to in-person instruction or you want to switch your child to VA, please see the note from Mr. Propst below.
Have a wonderful week!
Marie, Deb, Sarah, Dana, Lauren
HIGHLIGHTS FOR THIS WEEK

- Tuesday, April 6 & Wednesday, April 7: Teacher Work Days
- Thursday, April 8: Return to School!
April 1: Deadline for Plan A/VA
Please know that if you are requesting a change for these final weeks of the school year, your child's experience may include significant adjustments to their routine that will likely include a change of teacher, classmates, and possibly schedule. Additionally, elementary schools are in Plan A, which means social distancing protocols to the extent possible and as practicable; cloth face coverings; cleaning and hygiene protocols.
Finally, I want to clarify that our students are either in Plan A or VA. There is no hybrid option. Only if a Plan A student is absent for a quarantine period can they join a VA class. Students cannot choose to go back and forth between the two plans.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Yours,
Darrell Propst, Principal
Order Your 5th Grader's Class Shirt: Last Chance!!!!
Parent, Erin Galloway, has worked hard to design a 5th grade class shirt with our spirit wear vendor. The shirt will be purple with the Swift Creek logo over the left breast. On the back will be the first name of every 5th grader.
We would like to provide every 5th grader with a shirt. You can help us in these ways:
- If you have a 5th grader, complete this Google form to specify your child's t-shirt size.
- Donate to help purchase a t-shirt for a child. You can do that through our fundraising campaign or donation tool in MemberHub.
If you have questions about 5th grade t-shirts, contact Erin Galloway at [email protected].

Advocacy Alerts
This week, a bill was introduced in the state legislature to restore vital teaching assistant positions to our classrooms. SB 359 (HB 420), K-3 Reading and Literacy Improvement Act was filed on March 25, 2021.
This bill would allocate $271,000,000 for the 2021-2022 fiscal year in recurring additional funds to be allocated to LEA units to provide:
- One teacher assistant for every class in kindergarten, first, and second grade.
- One teacher assistant for every three classes in third grade.
New Bill Would Add School Nurses
This week, Rep. Ball and Senator Nickel (in the NC legislature) introduced SB 331 that would ensure that we have a nurse in every public school throughout North Carolina. This is a critical need to ensure the health and safety of our kids.
In 2019 an average school nurse served nearly 1,200 students and some served up to 2,300. The federal ratio is one nurse for every 750 students. Less than half of NC school districts meet the federal guidelines for the ratio of nurses to students.
Nurses are vital to students especially now, during a pandemic. Most schools already have students in the buildings and many more will in the coming weeks. In addition to health concerns from COVID-19, increasing numbers of students come to school with health issues.
