We're Back! Tomorrow is an exciting day as we kick off the 2022-23 school year. This year, we will be celebrating the 90th anniversary of Swift Creek, so our theme is Built for a Bright Future. Our school community is one of the oldest in Wake County. In fact, Swift Creek school was created by the farmers and families in this rural area in 1932 ... way before the county or the state recognized a need for a school in this area. With such a strong community foundation that has continued over 90 years, Swift Creek is built for a bright future.
Thank you to all our hardworking staff who have spent the past 8 teacher work days getting ready for our students. I know they are excited to see your kiddos tomorrow morning.
Speaking of tomorrow morning, if you are interested in welcoming back our students in the carpool line or the bus loop, please sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0f4da8af2ca6fe3-welcome1 . We will be blowing bubbles, giving fist bumps and high fives, and cheering on our students as they start the new year.
If you are carpool family, please allow yourself extra time in the morning and the afternoon. As you know the first few days of school, carpool can be a little slow as everyone gets used to the new routine. If this is your first time in our carpool, please know that we do back up onto Tryon Road. To help keep traffic flowing on Tryon, please move into the right lane and turn on your hazards, so other traffic knows that you are in our carpool line.
We hope everyone has a terrific first day! Remember there are only 4.5 days this week. Friday is our First Release day of the year!
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact any PTA board member.

About ROAR Expectations
To help you understand these programs, we will share information in our PTA newsletters. We also have these resources on our PTA website.
At Swift Creek, our students ROAR.
Students are expected to display ROAR behavior in the classroom, in the hallways, bathrooms, playground, and common areas.
These expectations are displayed around the school. Also the students start their day by saying the ROAR pledge over the morning announcements.
I promise that you will hear your kids talk a lot about ROAR (or Cougar) Coupons (or Dojo points in the upper grades).
Students can earn a ROAR Coupon from any staff member when the student is displaying ROAR behavior. This can be in the classroom, the hallway, in specials, and so on.
Students save their coupons to purchase items from the ROAR coupon menu, which is displayed in every classroom. Some grade levels have a treasure box, where a student can redeem coupons for an item. Other grade levels have experience prizes, such as eating lunch with the teacher or a free homework pass. Your child's teacher will send home more information about how ROAR Coupons are used in your child's class so check those Tuesday folders!
Every grade level sets goals for when special rewards or parties (such as camp out day, PJ day) are received. The individual class selects the reward or party.
Paw posters are displayed on each classroom door.

SCES 90th AnniveSary: Did You Know?
Each week, we will highlight a Swift Creek fact in the newsletter.
Here's this week fact:
Swift Creek School existed before the state took over the operation of the public school system. The Enterprise school (which was the initial name for Swift Creek) opened for classes in 1932. When the Swift Creek school was formed, it was the consolidation of these four schools:
1. Enterprise, located on Yates Mill Road
2. Fairview, located where the Fairview Club House now stands
3. Oak Hill, located in the vicinity of Piney Plains Church
4. J.Y. Joyner, located adjacent to Myatts Chapel Church on Highway 401 South of Raleigh
Here is a picture of the first red brick building. BTW, this building was used until 1991!
