Yesterday was a great day in the history of the Creek. What a fabulous 90th anniversary celebration! It was great to see so many people in attendance -- from current students and families to alumni to previous staff members to several dignitaries. It was a great day of sharing memories and creating new ones. We have so many people to thank for pulling off this wonderful event. More details can be found in the article below.
We want YOUR pictures from the 90th anniversary event! Please send them to:

Fun Run Update -- We are Up to $6000
We are collecting donations until Friday, Oct 14. Remember this is the ONLY fundraiser that we have at Swift Creek, so the money we raise is our entire operating budget for the year. We must reach our $18,000 to fully fund all our PTA programs this year -- staff assistance (such as grants to help purchase classroom supplies), cultural arts programs, student clubs, and so much more.
Also, every week that your child turns in a donation, they have an opportunity to visit the Fun Run wagon on Tuesday. At the Fun Run wagon, students can pick a small fun prize.
You can donate online through the Get Movin Crew website. Need help registering? Check out this cute video:

90Th Anniversary Celebration
We were honored to have so many dignitaries at our event. They were VERY impressed at what we as a community were able to put together.
- NC House representative for District 36 Julie von Haefen
- WCPSS Superintendent Catty Moore
- Area Superintendent Jonathan Enns
- School Board Chair Lindsey Maefferty
Dr. Barr lead our students in some OUTSTANDING performances:
- 3rd grade opened the celebration with the Hello dance from Denmark. It was great to watch Superintendent Moore, Representative von Haefen, and School Board Chair Maefferty join in the dance.
- Then 1st grade and Kindergarten led us in the Cougar cheer.
- 4th graders, 5th graders, and former Swifty students sang the school song.
- 2nd grade ended the performances with their scarf dance. It was so beautiful to watch.
Also, thank you to Mrs. McIntyre for working with her art classes to create 4 banners of student art work. They were so bright and colorful and definitely made an impact. So many visitors enjoyed them.
Thank you to our classroom teachers and IAs who worked with students to create Decades projects at each grade level. This student art work was displayed on the Decades tables in memory lane.
- Kindergarten studied the 2000s. They made a banner listing alphabetically popular items from the 2000s.
- 1st grade studied the 1990s. They drew pictures of popular 1990s items. Remember Furbies?
- 2nd grade studied the 1980s. As they rocked out to 80s tunes in the classroom, they made a banner with popular 80s phrases.
- 3rd grade studied the 1970s. In addition to making mini posters, they WORE their decades project. Each student made a tie-dye shirt using the colors blue and gold, which were the school colors in the 1970s.
- 4th grade studied the 1950s and 1960s. They researched popular figures and events in these decades and put them together on Google slides.
- 5th grade studied the 1930s and 1940s. They researched popular figures and events in these decades and put them together on Google slides.
Thank you to our custodian, Ms. Natasha, who made sure that we had all the supplies (tables, trash bags, etc) for this grand event.
NOTE: Custodian Appreciation Week starts October 3. Let's shower Ms. Natasha with cards thanking her for all her hard work. Her job often goes unnoticed, but we couldn't function without her!!!!
An extra special THANK YOU to Assistant Principal ShaRhonda Smith and Sarah Wohlmann for driving the shuttle buses from Food Lion and Macedonia United Methodist Church. They have been working VERY hard the past few weeks to make these shuttles possible. We hope it made your parking experience a little less painful.
And of course, not to forget, THANK YOU to Principal Propst for supporting this event, for his inspiring words at the opening ceremony, and for the informational display about the new school building. History is one of Mr. Propst's favorite subject, so he has been very excited about this event for months. I know he enjoyed hearing so many stories and seeing everyone turn out.
So many moments to cherish. If you attended, we would love your pictures from the event, so please sent them to:
- Lauren Nicholls for the yearbook: [email protected].
- Marie Dexter for a possible scrapbook: [email protected].

It takes a football team to pull off an event like this. THANK YOU for the hard work and dedication of all these individuals. Whether big or small, everyone lent a hand to make this happen. If I accidentally omitted your name for this list, please forgive me.
We've Received an $1800 Cultural Arts Grant
This year, Swift Creek has received $1800 to fund these performances! THANK YOU to Cultural Arts chair, April Bartley, for making this grant possible!
The remaining costs are funded through YOUR Fun Run donations!
April is looking for someone to take over the Cultural Arts program next year. If you are interested in shadowing April this year and learn the ropes, please contact her at [email protected].
Community Opportunities
Every year, the PTA invites writer Michael Beadle to be a writer in residence with our 4th grade classes. The teachers and students LOVE it when Mr. Beadle visits for the week.
Mr. Beadle has published a poetry book. He has upcoming book reading / book signing at Quail Ridge Books for my book, What Makes a Giraffe Laugh.
The date is Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022 @ 3 p.m.

Advocacy: Election Day is Nov 9. Learn How to View Your Sample Ballot
In our advocacy role, we want to remind you that this is an election year. Election day is Nov 8, but early voting runs from Oct 20-Nov 5. To find your nearest early voting location, see https://www.wakegov.com/departments-government/board-elections/election-information/early-voting. (If you stop by the John Brown Community Center in Apex in the morning, you might run into someone you know. ;-)
Also, please note: all school board members are up for election in November. Over the summer, the districts for school board were redrawn, so your district might have recently changed.
To view YOUR SAMPLE BALLOT, see https://www.ncsbe.gov/voting/sample-ballot.
Also, on this year's ballot is a school bond. This bond is to fund maintenance, renovations, new school buildings, and technology for Wake County Public Schools. The rebuilding of Swift Creek is NOT part of this bond (that money was approved in a previous bond); however, this bond does fund renovations (such as a possible new HVAC system for Athens High School).
