Happy Holidays to Our STaff!
- On Thursday, thanks to YOUR help she organized a holiday cookie exchange. Staff members were able to make a plate of cookies to take home. The table was groaning under the weight of all those delicious cookies. Kristen reports that it was hard to get a picture because the cookies disappeared so quickly!!!!
- On Friday, thanks to your donations of gift cards and donations to the Fun Run each staff member received a soup mug with goodies -- 2 $10 gift cards, fuzzy socks, and some sweet treats!

Clean Out Your Book Shelves and help us collect 2022 books for Wake Up and read
We are excited to announce the top 3 classes that have donated so far! Our third highest class for book donations, with 132 books, is Mrs. Coles’ Class! Our second highest class for book donations, with 137 books, is Mrs. Wade’s Class! And our #1 top donating class so far in the book drive, with 161 books donated, is Mrs. Phillips’ Class!!!
Our grand total of donations for the entire school is….1, 027 books!!! That’s incredible!
If you haven’t brought books in yet, it’s not too late! We are still collecting books until January 19th and we have a new school goal! Since we are about to enter the year 2022, our goal is to collect at least 2022 books for children in need!
Thank you for your teamwork, generosity, and for showing that Other People Matter! Sincerely, The Swift Creek Service Club
Here is how you can help!
- Please clear your cluttered shelves of gently read books your kids have outgrown, or purchase new books that you love.
- Put these books in your child’s bag or a separate bag or box and have your child bring them to their classroom to be counted toward their grade level total. If you have a lot of books, you can bring them to the school and drop them off with someone at the front door.
- Swift Creek Service Club members will collect donated books from each classroom on a weekly basis and will count how many books each grade level has collected.

Happy Holidays to you all and don’t forget to get some fresh air and stay active!
In an effort to continue with advocacy efforts around access to healthy foods, NCPTA presents NUTRITION NUGGETS, a series of informational podcasts.
As we endure the pandemic, we believe these videos will support our PTA units and families with highlights on several topics:
- Child friendly recipes
- Starting gardens and the importance of PTA pantries
- Nutrition for Athletic students
- Breakfast for Every Child
- and more!
REcycling over the Holidays
We also continue our recycling efforts at the Creek. Contact Recycling chair, Megan Holler at [email protected], if you have things to recycle.
SCES PTA has the ability to collect for a variety of specialty recycling programs:
1. TerraCycle’s squeezable pouch program – squeezable pouches, of any brand, with caps on.
2. TerraCycle’s snack wrapper program – foil lined snack food bags.
3. NexTrex’ plastic film program – bags, bubble wrap, overwrap, and other stretchy plastic.
4. Crayola’s ColorCycle program – markers and highlighters.
How You Can Participate:
Collect your recycling materials and drop off a Megan Holler's house OR drop off your recycling items at Macedonia United Methodist church on Saturday mornings from 8-10. (This is when they are collecting items for the food pantry.)
If you have plastic film for the NexTrex program, you can drop off your bags OR weigh the amount of plastic that you have to recycle and email that weight to Megan. Then take your bags to your local grocery store for recycling.
For questions about the TerraCycle programs at Swift Creek, or to join the recycling committee, please contact Megan Holler at [email protected].
This Week in Pictures
Glow Dance in the Music Room
Students got to dance the day away in the music room. This activity was a smaller version of the Glow Dance that we usually have for the winter incentive. Mrs. McIntyre had students create awesome fluorescent trees that showed up spectacularly in the black lights. Each student also received a glow bracelet and had an opportunity to write on the "graffiti" wall.
A few after school care students got to help with the set up!
And did you hear about Melody's (the music room fairy's surprise)? Dr. Barr had teased students with Melody's surprise for a week and gave the big reveal at the glow dance. In the pictures, you will see a line of lights up near the ceiling of the classroom. These lights are very special. Not only do they change color, but they also can change based on the rhythm of the music. These lights won't disappear after the Winter Blast. Dr. Barr will be able to use them in her classroom to visually reinforce her music curriculum. It's pretty cool!
In art, students made shrinky dinks. I know my daughter came home so proud of her work. You should have received instructions (on a yellow piece of paper) about how to bake these plastic sheets in the oven to create the shrinky dink. Did your instruction sheet get lost in your child's book bag? No worries! We've got you covered with the screen shot below.
In the gym, Mr. Hines created a challenging golf course! Students used hockey sticks to get their golf balls in each hole. But watch out for those dangerous obstacles! I think some of our after school volunteers had WAY too much fun creating these obstacles for their friends. :-)
