Wow! Thank you everyone for cleaning out your children's book shelves this weekend. Our stack of books for the Wake Up and Read program has grown. You should have seen the smile on Mrs. Ramsey's face.
She has extended the deadline to this Friday in the hopes of collecting a few more books. If you bring some in, turn them in to the library.
How many books can we collect?????
Here's a little more info about the program, if you are interested. These books are sent to the 10 most in need elementary schools in Wake County. (Examples are Lincoln Heights and East Garner.) Each child at the school is allowed to pick out 10 books to take home with them. The remaining books go to the school library, preschools surrounding the school, and community centers. The idea is to flood this area with books to help improve literacy rates for these students. It is really an amazing program. Their goal is to collect 110,000 books this year and you can help just by cleaning off your child's book shelves.
