On Tuesday, Swift Creek received Green Shield recognition from the Positivity Project. This is the first year of this "Shielded" program, and Swift Creek was 1 of 11 schools in the country (and the ONLY one in Wake County) to receive this honor. Achieving this recognition is requires YEARS of work, so we were thrilled to receive this honor. Thank you to our teachers and staff members who are dedicated to the P2 movement and implementing the Other People Matter mindset. A special THANK YOU to Mrs. Chadwick who spearheads our P2 efforts and applied for this award.
Also, on Tuesday, the PTA held its last PTA meeting of the year, and we elected our new board! The PTA is set up for a year of success! The list of new officers is in the article below. They will be in the media center at the Open House on Tuesday, May 23 and would love to talk with YOU more about how you can be involved in the PTA next year.
On Thursday, we hosted our 4th (and BEST) International Night! All of our host families brought their A+ game with their displays and presentations. My jaw dropped with amazement. We are SO GRATEFUL to all our families for the time and energy! We couldn't have this event without YOU!
Also, a special Thank you to Dr. Barr for providing the perfect music for our International festival and for her folk dancing! Dr. Barr worked with the students in the classroom so they could perform with confidence on Thursday night. Our students loved teaching their special adult some of the folk dancing moves. And thank you to Mrs. McIntyre for sharing the pottery wheel with our students! And to Mrs. Green for sharing with us important information how to be culturally sensitive!
This week was a perfect example of what is amazing about our community. So many memories to treasure and to keep us going through the rest of this busy school year!
We look ahead to another fun and busy week. We hope you can join us at the Open House on Tuesday, the final session of Run Club on Wednesday morning, and Field Day on Thursday. Get lots of good rest today because you will need all the energy you can muster next week!

Weekly Wellness: Children and Hydration
HYDRATION CHALLENGE: Not all kids know if they are really thirsty or feeling dehydrated. Let’s add some fun into drinking water! This week, we encourage everyone to have your student select one thing to want to add to their water bottles EVERY DAY. It can be berries, watermelon, citrus fruits such as lemons, limes, oranges or grapefruits or even mint. Frozen berries also work great also. Continue experimenting with different flavors each week and throughout the summer. You will see all the great benefits of staying hydrated!
Minutes from our Last PTA meeting for the Year
Here are some of the highlights:
3rd grade (Mrs. Ellis, Mrs. Jones, and Mrs. Owens) presented about Read to Achieve, EOG, and the Good Cause Exemption.
If you have any questions, please contact Deborah Killion ([email protected]) or Kristen Sherman ([email protected]).
Wed, June 7: 5th Grade Ceremony & Celebration
If you've never attended one of our 5th grade ceremonies, here are some details on what to expect.
Parking
Everyone should be aware that carpool will be extra busy that morning, since the ceremony starts at 9:30am. Families can park in front of the school and at the park. Please DO NOT park at the Swift Creek community center. You can also park at the Food Lion shopping center and walk over to the school.
Bring Your Own Chair
The ceremony will be in the park behind the school. 5th graders will have seats on the basketball court. We ask that you bring your own chair and sit in the grass in the field. You might also want to bring a water bottle with you, depending on the heat. The ceremony lasts about an hour.
After the Ceremony
After the event, don't leave right away. We'd like to get one last class picture. This picture will be printed and hang in the front lobby with the pictures from previous 5th grade classes.
NEED: Does anyone have a nice camera that we could use to take this picture?
Also, we will have refreshments (cupcakes or cake and water) for the students.
Want to Contribute to the Event?
Want to give a shout out to your 5th grader or maybe all the 5th graders? We are looking for posters and signs to hang along the fence on the tennis courts. Everyone is welcome to contribute. Please turn your posters in to the office by Tuesday, June 6.
Also if you have any baby pictures of your 5th grader, I'd love those too. Send them to Marie Dexter at [email protected].
Remember to Order Your School Supply Kit!
Help Water Our Garden This Summer
Watering sign up: https://tinyurl.com/scesWater23
When you sign up for a week, you will pick a day that week to come water. You will water the 3 raised garden beds beside the Kindergarten building, and the two potted flowers in this area.
**The hose is located by the kindergarten building (the door facing the garden). The hose will reach all 3 garden boxes or you can use the watering cans.**
If anything is ripe and ready for harvest please feel free to take it! Anything that is ready is for you to use. Thank you!
Thanks so much for your help and support to keep our plants GROWING STRONG over the summer so we can take pride in our gardens when we return to campus in August.
