I hope you are all having a fantastic summer. Although it seems as though we just said our goodbyes, very soon Swift Creek will open its doors for the 89th year. I am writing to you today with important information regarding the 2021-2022 school year.
First, let’s take a moment to reflect upon 2020-2021. There has never been a time in education for any of us like this past year. Thank you for all you did that made it not just bearable, but in many ways - wonderful. We all learned so much and allowed ourselves to grow in the experience. Now, it’s time to take what we’ve learned and come back together for an amazing new school year. With great students, staff members, families, and a supportive community, Swift Creek Elementary is a great place to learn, which is why we are embracing the theme #BetterTogether.
This year, there are many exciting changes to look forward to at our school, with new staff members, new technology, and new programs to enrich our students’ educational experience. Whether you are returning to Swift Creek or this year begins your relationship with us, I encourage you to become involved in school activities and with our outstanding PTA.
By the end of this week, in-person class lists will be posted on the front doors. You will find students listed by first name and last initial. Thursday, August 19 is Meet the Family Night. In order to minimize the number of people in classrooms at any one time, we need your cooperation. Students whose last names begin with A-K are invited into the building from 5:00-5:45; L-Z may come in 5:45-6:30. In addition to meeting your teacher, you will also be able to pick up school kits, sign up for free/reduced lunch, get a car tag, update records (and medication), verify transportation, register for before/after care, buy spirit wear, and join the PTA. These stations will be set up both inside and outside of the building.
The first day of school for first through fifth graders is Monday, August 23. Kindergartners will come to Swift Creek that week by appointment for screening assessments. The first full day for Kindergarteners will be Monday, August 30.
Our school day begins at 9:15 am. The earliest time for student arrival is 8:45 am. Students will be dismissed at 3:45 pm. It is the parents’ responsibility to get the children to school on time. Thank you for doing your part to ensure that students are in class and ready to learn on time every day.
The complete supply list and other great information is on the school’s website, wcpss.net/swiftcreekes. Finally, be sure to follow us on Instagram and Twitter @SCESRoars and the Swift Creek PTA @SCES_NC_PTA. If you have any questions, please call our school office. Swift Creek Cougars, let’s have our most awesome school year ever!
Sincerely,
Darrell Propst, Principal
