The first week of remote learning is in the books. I really appreciated Superintendent Moore's video conference on Friday when she emphasized everyone giving themselves grace and flexibility with this new process.
Remember on Tuesday, Mr. Propst and the admin team are having a coffee and conversation at 7pm through Google Meet. They want to hear from you. (See the log in information below).
This week is also both Administrative Assistant Appreciation Week and Earth Week. Check out details below.
We hope everyone is doing well! If you need anything, please reach out! We love to hear from you.
Have a good week,
Your PTA Executive Board
Marie, Deborah Killion, Lauren Nicholls, and Delores Ragsdale

Administrative Assistant Appreciation Week
This week, it is time to celebrate our front office staff!!! They work so very hard to keep our school running smoothly. They really see everything -- answering phones, fixing boo boos, dealing with transportation issues, registering our students, giving out smiles and hugs!
You can thank each of these folks by signing their virtual Thank you card!
- Ms. Ghenet Lennon, front desk receptionist
- Mrs. Angel Wellborn, data manager
- Mrs. Allison Kern-Silva, lead secretary
Join Us for Virtual Earth Week
The 50th anniversary of Earth Day is Wednesday, April 22. To celebrate Earth Week, we will have a theme for each day. (Full disclosure: I borrowed these from Millbrook Elementary. ;-))
- Monday #jutBee -- Wear bee colors, Hang a bee in your window, Do a bee craft
- Tuesday #BeeZen -- Do yogs, meditate, relax and read
- Wednesday # BeeGreen -- plan something, go for a hike, go for a picnic, be outside
- Thursday #BeeThoughtful -- Send a note to someone on the front lines, Thank others. One idea is to create a card for the workers at Wake Med (see below).
- Friday #BeeSocial -- connect with friends online. Connect with another Swifty Creek family over Google Meet and have breakfast or a snack together.
Our Recycling committee chair, Megan Holler, has worked hard to gather together Earth Day facts and information to share throughout the week!
Positivity Project (P2): Appreciation of Beauty & Excellence
What awesome P2 videos the staff have created for our kids! It was nice to be able to participate along with my daughter this week.
This week, students will learn about the Appreciation of Beauty & Excellence.
What It Means
You notice and value the world’s beauty and
people’s skills. You don’t take things for
granted.
Why It Matters
Appreciating excellence and beauty helps an individual
experience positive emotions and connect to the world
around him/her. It’s an outward facing strength, meaning
the individual is focused on the world outside his/her head.
On a group level, those who appreciate excellence and
beauty make our lives more enjoyable. First, it means that
they’re not looking to criticize the world or its people, but
instead take pleasure from their excellence. Second, it is
the writers, painters, musicians, and filmmakers who help
us better appreciate the world around us.

Saying Thank You to Health Care Workers at Wake Med
We want to show our gratitude and appreciation for the workers on the front line at our local hospital at Wake Med. We invite you to participate in letter writing and/or artwork that we can deliver to the staff at Wake Med. This will help the students practice writing and explore their creative side as well as lift up our community.
Wake Med asked that there not be any demographic, personal emails, or addresses on the letters and limit the art work to an 8.5 X 11 sheet. It is also asked that no religious affiliation is mentioned. You can drop off your art work and letters at the school.
***IMPORTANT NOTE: *** The orange drop box has been temporarily removed from the front of the school. (We think someone accidentally took it inside.) We will let know you when it is back in place.
If you have any questions about this project, contact Georgianne at [email protected]. Thank you, Georgianne, for organizing this!
Virtual Teacher Appreciation Week: We are Brighter Together!
Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4 - May 8! Let's celebrate all our teachers do for us. Each day will have an opportunity for your family to participate.
- Monday -- "A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet". Create a name poem for your teacher and IA. For example, Ms. Lipe -- L = loving, I = intelligent, P = pretty, E = excellent
- Tuesday -- Draw a picture of your teacher's favorite flower or landscape (such as the beach, the mountains, a sunset).
- Wednesday -- Dress in your teacher's favorite color.
- Thursday -- Send a virtual hug. This could be as a photo or you could draw a picture of you sending a hug.
- Friday -- Write a Thank You letter to your teacher.
If you don't know your teacher's favorite flower or color, don't worry! We are gathering this information and will have it available in a Google Doc next week!
