To find your teacher or IA's favorite things, see My Favorite Things. Also, if you have nonperishable items to drop off for your teachers, Mr. Propst will be at the school between 10-3. He will meet you at the school door and put those items in teachers' mailboxes. Postivity Project: LeadershipThis week in the Positivity Project, students are learning about the character strength of Leadership. What It Means You value each member of your group and inspire people to do their best. Why It Matters For individuals, leadership is a way to achieve what you know is important, as groups of people invariably achieve more than individuals. If you want to achieve your vision for the future, you need to inspire others to join you. As an individual’s ability to lead develops, so does that person’s confidence and sense of self-efficacy. A group’s effectiveness and sense of inspiration is tied directly to the leader. Study after study shows that leaders (and managers) have the biggest influence on group success and morale. Leaders can be developed and it starts with character. Since this is Teacher Appreciation Week, I thought this quote about leadership was perfect! “When the world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful...Let us remember: one book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can change the world.’” -MALALA YOUSAFZAI Tomorrow! Teacher Appreciation DayBefore you go to bed tonight, lay out your clothes for tomorrow. To celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, remember to wear your teacher or IA's favorite colors!
Teacher Appreciation Week: DAy 1It is the first day of Teacher Appreciation Week! To celebrate, send your teacher a name poem! "A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet". It looks like a great resource for this crazy time. http://swiftcreekeswcpssnetptahtml.weebly.com/uploads/2/4/2/2/24227387/may_mindfulness_calendar.pdf TOMORROW: TEacher Appreciation WeekDraw a picture of your teacher's favorite flower or landscape (such as the beach, the mountains, a sunset). To see your teacher or IA's favorite things, see My Favorite Things.
Hello everyone!
This is my favorite week of the year: Teacher Appreciation Week! We hope you can take some time this week to shower gratitude on our HARD WORKING teachers, IAs, and support staff. To help generate ideas, we will have a theme / activity for each day. Check out the "Virtual Teacher Appreciation Week" section below. Sending your appreciation virtually is the best idea for now. However, if you have non-perishable items to drop off, Mr. Propst will be at the school on Tuesday from 10-3. He will meet you at the school doors and put your items in the teacher's mailbox. Would you like to give a teacher a shout out on the PTA FaceBook page? It is easy to do! Send your kudos (letter, picture, artwork) or a video to Marie Dexter at [email protected]. I hope to receive enough content that we can do a FaceBook Live event on Friday at 12:00. This would the same time we would have had our teacher luncheon celebration. So send your content today! We hope everyone is doing well! If you need anything, please reach out! We love to hear from you. Have a good week, Your PTA Executive Board Marie, Deborah Killion, Lauren Nicholls, and Delores Ragsdale FaceBook / PTA Website Posts This Week If you are a follower on FaceBook, here is the schedule for posts this week.
Please note: We know not everyone is on social media, so we will also have most of this information daily on the PTA Website. Unfortunately because of copyright issues, we cannot post the videos of the teachers reading books, but everything else should be available. We want everyone to have an opportunity to participate! Do you have something special that you want to share on our FaceBook page? We'd love to see what your family is doing. Send your content to Marie Dexter at [email protected]. Well just like everything else during this time, we will hold the event virtually. Send your videos or pictures of your artwork to Marie Dexter at [email protected]. We are starting to compile content. You can send videos from a gymnastics meet or dance competition. You can share a video of you singing a song, performing a comedy act, or reading a story that you wrote. Note: Because these videos will be posted on the web, we need parent permission to make these videos available. A permission slip will be available in next week's email and from the PTA website. If you are interested in participating, please let me know ASAP. The deadline for content is after Memorial Day. Saying Thank You to Health Care Workers at Wake Med We want to show our gratitude and appreciation for the workers on the front line at our local hospital at Wake Med. We invite you to participate in letter writing and/or artwork that we can deliver to the staff at Wake Med. This will help the students practice writing and explore their creative side as well as lift up our community. Wake Med asked that there not be any demographic, personal emails, or addresses on the letters and limit the art work to an 8.5 X 11 sheet. It is also asked that no religious affiliation is mentioned. You can drop off your art work and letters at the school. Drop off your cards and artwork in the orange box in the front of the school. If you have any questions about this project, contact Georgianne at [email protected]. Thank you, Georgianne, for organizing this! Ways You Can Help the Creek! Did you know that you can still help the Creek earn money?
Yearbook Distribution Information You might be wondering how you are going to get the yearbook you ordered. Sarah Wohlmann, our yearbook chair, and I are discussing yearbook distribution. So don't worry. If you ordered a book, we will get it to you. We should receive yearbooks around the end of May so stay tuned for a distribution date in late May or early June. If you order a yearbook today, you will need to pay to have it shipped to your house. But that's the great thing about using TreeRing! You can always order later and have it shipped directly to you! Advocacy: WCPSS Budget for Next Year On Tuesday April 14, the Superintendent's proposed budget was first presented to the school board. The full proposed budget can be found at https://www.wcpss.net/budget. Because of the current pandemic and the downturn in tax revenue collected by Wake county, WCPSS made some slight adjustments to the budget in the areas of school maintenance and increase in pay. Last year's budget included measures to "catch up" with school maintenance projects and increasing salary for bus drivers and other staff each year for the next 5 years. However, because of the pandemic, WCPSS has pulled back on some of those requests for this year. They hope to increase requests in future years to catch up for this year. The School Board will vote on and send the budget to the County Commissioners by May 15. If you have questions about the budget, you can contact our school board representative Dr. Jim Martin, District 5 board member, at [email protected] |
