REgistration for Cougar Front Runners is Open until March 8
During this time, students will learn about leading a healthy lifestyle, learn stretching techniques, and walk (or run) around the track.
We will be keeping track of our laps by earning a rubber band/lap. 5 laps= a mile. We will tally laps at the end of each run club meeting. Students will hand in their collected rubber bands to a parent volunteer and have their laps tallied.
Students in **Kindergarten and 1st grade** must have a parent attend Run Club with them. If you are unable to accompany your child and your child really wants to participate, please email Lisa Kropilak.
Parents are ALWAYS welcome at Run Club. We will need help tracking laps, stretching before our run, and leading students on the track. To volunteer, contact Lisa Kropilak.

Help Us Tell Swifty's Story: Deadline March 31
We are asking students for their thoughts about Swifty's beginnings and his daily life. Students are welcome to write a story, submit a few sentences, or draw pictures to share their thoughts.
These stories will be shared with a local author (and former Swift Creek alum) and used as a basis for a story about Swifty's life at the Creek! Your drawing might be included as an illustration in the book.
Here are some questions to get you started:
- Where was Swifty born?
- What was Swifty’s life like as a little cub?
- How did Swifty come to live at Swift Creek?
- Does Swifty have any brothers or sisters?
- What does Swifty do during the school day?
- What is Swifty’s favorite food? Favorite color? Favorite toy?
The deadline for entries is March 31.
You can turn in your entries to your teacher or submit them online at http://tinyurl.com/SwiftysStory.
We need YOU in the PTA!

Advocacy: Redrawing of School Board Districts
My key takeaways were the following:
- The districts need to be redrawn because the population growth in Wake County over the last 10 years. (Districts are reassessed every 10 years after the census.)
- Ideally, each school district has a population of about 120,000 residents.
- As the bar graph shows, districts 1 (in purple) and 8 (red) are way above the ideal 120,000 limit and some districts such as District 5 are below this line.
- The district came up with 3 plans that met the criteria given to them by the school board.
- Public comments are still open on the maps. If you have feedback, contact your school board representative. For District 5, our representative is Dr. Jim Martin, [email protected].
