Monday-Friday: Office Hours with Mr. Propst
Do you have questions for Mr. Propst? Starting this week, he will be holding office hours.
Beginning this Monday, I will hold a virtual open office hour from 11:30 - 12:30. If you want to connect, then please use this Google Meet link https://meet.google.com/sir-nvjj-swi?hs=122&authuser=0. Each day I will join the meet at 11:30 and hang out for a few minutes. If no one shows up after about 15, I'll close the meeting for that day. If you're not able to join until later in the hour, just send an email and let me know when. If you're emailing me, remember that it's [email protected].

Next Week: Announcement from WCPSS about Online Learning to Begin the School Year
Will we start the school year online or won't we? In Friday's email, Superintendent Moore stated that a decision might be made as early as Tuesday.
New FaceBook Groups for Parent Discussions
Many of you have asked for a space where you can ask questions of other parents. For example, families who have chosen to participate in Virtual Academy are looking for other families who are participating to form possible cohorts.
To help connect you with each other, the PTA has created these two groups:
- Swift Creek ES (NC) Virtual Academy: www.facebook.com/groups/scesva/
- Swift Creek ES (NC) Incoming Kindergartners www.facebook.com/groups/sceskindergarten/
These groups are private and require membership approval. (Hopefully this will prevent families from the Swift Creek ES in Virginia from posting. Believe me it happens on the PTA FaceBook page all the time. ;-)
Agendas for 3rd, 4th, and 5th Graders
To help our students learn time management skills, the PTA purchases agendas for all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders at the start of every school year. We will have agendas for every student -- whether they are remote or virtual. Those agendas should be delivered to the school in the beginning of August.
If you are signed up for Virtual Academy and are interested in having an agenda, we will work with our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade families to get these agendas to you.
If your child is on Plan B, we will deliver their agenda to the classroom.
School Supply Kitz
These will be delivered to the school around August 10.
If your child is signed up for Virtual Academy, we will probably have a day that you can pick up your supplies. Or we will arrange to get the kit to you.
If you are interested in donating any of the supplies in your kit (such as the disinfectant wipes), we can arrange that too!
If your child is signed up for Plan B, we will deliver your kit to the classroom.

Update Regarding the Reopening of Schools, Virtual Academy Applications and Open House Video
Virtual Academy applications accepted July 10-20
Information is now available for the WCPSS Virtual Academy, which will offer fully-online instruction for families who wish for their children to learn at home full-time. The application window is July 10-20.
WCPSS Virtual Academy Open House
You can watch an archived version of the WCPSS Virtual Academy Open House on our YouTube Channel. Staff discuss the Virtual Academy schedule, course offering and more.
Update Regarding the Reopening of Schools
As many local media outlets have reported, the district is considering the option of opening the school year with online instruction. The plan approved on July 2 was approved in part because it offered the most flexibility to pivot to other options. The current discussion around opening the school year online anticipates moving to some form of in-person instruction as soon as practical. As we get closer to opening the 2020-2021 school year, it has become evident that additional time will allow us to ensure that resources are obtained and distributed, necessary health protocols are established and integrated, and staff are prepared to fully implement these new procedures.
A decision could be made as early as Tuesday. Should the district decide to modify Plan B, another registration window for the Virtual Academy will be opened.
