Positivity Project (P2): Connection/Purpose
Only a couple more weeks of the Positivity Project! This week, the students will be learning about the character strength of Connection/Purpose.
What It Means
You have beliefs about the meaning of life and your life’s purpose. You seek to be part
of something greater than yourself.
Why It Matters
Having a clear sense of purpose in life, and a belief that you’re connected to a larger meaning, gives individuals strength. It allows them to persevere and find courage in
trying circumstances, or lead with kindness and love even when it’s not reciprocated. Those with a sense of purpose have more meaning in their life – and are more fulfilled.
On a group level, purpose can be a powerful aligning element. It gives people a reason to continue on in hope and optimism, despite difficult circumstances. The sense of
connection between people further strengthens their individual resolve and focus, which fortifies the group. When a group of individuals believe in something higher
than themselves, their work can be exponentially greater.
Tuesday: Deadline for Items for Girls on the Run Project

For their service project, they are collecting items for Hopes for Paws and the ASPCA. While you are doing some spring cleaning this week, you might find items to donate.

Turn in Your Box Tops and Coke Bottle Tops
The Box Top Fairy will be collecting items on Tuesday afternoon. Please turn in any Box Tops or Coke Bottle Tops that you have to your child's teacher!
Wednesday: No School
Don't forget. There is no school on Wednesday because of the scheduled Teachers' Rally in downtown Raleigh.
If you know a family who needs food or child care for that day, you can get more information from this N&O article.
Thursday: Swift Creek Spirit Night at Chick-Fil-A
Take the night off from cooking and join us from 5-8pm at the Chick-Fil-A at Walnut Street. A portion of all sales (both dine in and drive thru) will go to Swift Creek.
Save room for dessert. We will be selling $1 sundaes and ALL that money goes directly to the Creek!
Friday: Spirit Day and Celebration of Brilliance
Friday is another school spirit day, so wear your Swift Creek gear or colors. Ms. Lipe's kindergarten class has won the Swifty Spirit Award 3 times this year!!!! Will your child's class have the most participation this month???
On Friday, during their specials' time, students will be attending their last Celebration of Brilliance for this year. These events have been a great way to recognize students and staff for their character strengths and contributions they bring to our school community. If your child is being recognized, you should have received a letter home in last week's Tuesday folder.
Thank you to Mrs. Chadwick and the school's PBIS committee for bringing these celebrations to life. Each one has been so touching and meaningful. What a great way to recognize our students and staff.

Advocacy Updates
Information about WCPSS 2019-20 Proposed School Budget
Once a quarter, our school board representative for District 5, Dr. James Martin, holds a meeting to discuss important issues in Wake County. This time the discussion centered on the proposed budget for 2019-20.
It was a REALLY interesting discussion. If you have time, I highly recommend you scanning my "Cliff notes." They are available from the PTA website.
What Are Teachers Marching for on Wednesday?
Public Schools First for NC published a letter from a teacher to explain to students why teachers are marching on May 1.
Here is another article about the rally from WRAL.
If you cannot attend the rally on Wednesday, you can wear red (for ed) to show your support.
