Throughout this year, you have been so good about picking up needed supplies for your child to use for online instruction. At the end of the year, we will have a process for returning the headphones and math manipulative kits. These will remain the property of WCPSS and will be reused next year. Please encourage your child to "Act Responsibly" with these resources. We have also distributed EL reading books in grades 2-5 that we will ask you to return soon and pick up new EL books for the next units of study.
Starting next week, we will be kicking off a Black History Trivia Contest on the morning announcements. I will give students a clue each day Monday through Friday about a very important person. Each week, the set of clues will focus on a different person. At the end of February, your child (with your help) can enter the contest by emailing [email protected] with their guesses of the names of the four people. On the announcements during the first week of March, we will draw one winner from each grade level who will receive a prize from Swifty! This should be fun!
Finally, I'm so pleased to introduce to you our new 5th grade math teacher, Mr. Nate Young. Mr. Young has written a brief introduction to share with you. Swift Creek is excited to have him here! Have a great weekend.
Hello Swift Creek families. My name is Nate Young and I am excited to be joining the team at Swift Creek Elementary as a 5th grade teacher! I can’t wait to meet everyone and become involved with this great school community.
This is my first year teaching after having completed a Master’s degree in elementary education at WGU. Before becoming an educator, I spent 20 years in the landscape industry managing property maintenance crews providing beautiful landscapes for clients to enjoy. I grew up in Vermont, where I met my wife of 16 years, spent 9 years in Colorado where our two children were born, and moved to North Carolina about 6 years ago so that my family and I could enjoy the ocean and the mountains.
I am so excited to be here at Swift Creek and have the opportunity to participate in your child’s educational journey!
Yours,
Darrell Propst, Principal
