Swift Creek Will move to Swing Space in Jan 2024
Due to the fact that demolition must begin in Feb 2024, Swift Creek WILL be moving to the temporary space starting in January 2024.
Here is the latest update:
Finally, a construction update. This week, a meeting was held to discuss the best timeline for Swift Creek to move into the temporary location at 2600 Timber Drive. The desired outcome is to get the new building completed and our staff and students to be off-site for as short a time as possible. The decision has been made to have Swift Creek move to our temporary home in January 2024. With this date, we can look forward to returning to the new building in time for the start of the 2025-2026 school year. The change in date was needed so that work could begin on our existing campus to ensure an on-time return for the 2025-26 school year. We will have from August 2023 to January 2024 to say farewell to the buildings that have served our community well for so many years.
To help staff, students, and families envision learning in our temporary home, I am inviting you all to join me for an Open House at 2600 Timber Drive on May 23 from 5:30-7:30pm. You will be able to tour the campus and check out the different learning spaces. We will send out details closer to the Open House. However, if you have any questions or concerns, I’d love to hear from you before then.

WCPSS SuperInenDent Moore REtiring July 1
I want to take this opportunity to share with you that I will be retiring as Superintendent at the end of this school year - July 1, 2023.
I make this decision with a heavy heart but with undeniable confidence in the WCPSS community moving forward.
Our school system has been a part of my life and my family’s life since 1988 when I joined the district as a teacher at Enloe High School. How lucky am I to have been a part of our community as a parent, teacher, administrator, and, for the last five years, Superintendent.
I owe each of you thanks, but I know those words aren’t big enough to express the gratitude in my heart. Serving our students alongside each one of you has been my utmost privilege and pleasure. I am so grateful for the support you have provided to my family and me during the past 34 years. I will forever cherish the relationships we have built with each other. And I will remain inspired by your passion and commitment to serving each child, every day. Always.
Monday: Board Advisory Council Meeting
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Feb 13 from 5:30-7:00 at Vernon Malone College & Career Academy. The topic will be school safety and WCPSS' new strategic plan.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
Note: Marie Dexter will be attending the meeting and will share her notes in the next newsletter.
