Next week is a regular full week of school. Lots of exciting news in this week's newsletter, which brought a big smile to my face this week. I hope you feel the same way.
Have a great week! If you need anything, please contact any PTA board member.

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- Wednesday, Jan 24 -- Celebration of Brilliance.
In previous years (and hopefully again the future), we gathered in the gym by grade level for these celebrations. Because of COVID, this week's celebration will occur in the classrooms. If your child is being recognized, you should have received a notification from your child's teacher. EVERY child will be recognized in a Celebration of Brilliance this year. We will have our second celebration in May.
Be on the lookout for pictures from the Jan 26 celebration from teachers and on our FaceBook page!
Total for Wake Up and Read Books ... 3138 BookS!
Way to go, Swifties! Mrs. Chadwick will be dropping off the books soon, and I bet the Wake Up and Read folks will be amazed about what our small community can accomplish together! #BetterTogether!
THE POSITIVITY PROJECT: Supporting Others When They Struggle
Exciting volunteer Opportunities!!!
Sadly for the past two years, we've had to cancel International Night because of COVID. This year we are bringing it back, but with a twist! We will hold the event outdoors around the track. We will have tents set up around the track so families can Walk around the World and visit each country.
To be successful, we need YOUR family to participate. We will also need volunteers to help with the event.
Here are some ways that you can help:
- Host a country. Around the field we will have a table and tent for each country (or family if there are multiple families for the same country). In each display, we encourage families to teach us about the unique traditions, holidays, geography, languages, and culture of your country. Displays can be posters with pictures, or tri-fold boards. Items to display in your exhibit could be toys, books, money, music, whatever you can think of!
- Help in the planning by joining the International Night committee. We are currently working on booking food trucks, music to play from the field house, maybe some groups who could perform during the event. If you have suggestions or ideas, we'd love to have you as part of the committee!
2022-2023 is going to be a VERY special year for the Creek. It will be our last year in our current building. (As of current plans, the school should move to the transition space in Garner in July 2023).
With the big change, it seems fitting that 2022 is also Swift Creek's 90th anniversary! We are planning a BIG anniversary celebration this fall. To make that happen, we have to start planning now!
If you are interested in being part of the planning committee, please contact Marie Dexter at [email protected]. Even if you don't want to be part of the committee but you have ideas / suggestions to share, send them as well!!! We'd love your ideas and input.
WEEKLY WELLNESS: Free COVID Tests
In an effort to reduce the spike of the omicron coronavirus variant, the Biden administration has created a new website for Americans to request up to four free COVID-19 tests per household. The tests should ship via the U.S. Postal Service between 7-12 days after they are ordered via the site. Every home in the U.S. is eligible to order 4 free at-home tests. Be sure to order your tests now so you have them when you need them.
Here’s what you need to know about your order:
- The tests are completely free
- Limit of one order per residential address
- One order includes 4 individual rapid antigen COVID-19 tests
- Orders will ship free starting in late January
- where you can buy at-home test at your local stores and pharmacies,
- insurance reimbursements for up to 8 at-home test per month for each person on the plan
- and how to find free testing centers in your community
Magnet School Deadline Extended to Feb 6
Rising kindergarten siblings of magnet students in grades K-4 MUST enroll and apply to be assigned to the same magnet school as the older sibling.
Students rising into 6th and rising 9th-grade who are siblings of magnet students who are rising into grades 7-8 or grades 10-12 have already been assigned to the magnet school of the older sibling. Parents may email [email protected] for confirmation of the sibling's assignment.
Applicants may apply to any magnet school that is an option for their address although applying to the pathway school for the current school provides the highest priority to be selected (wcpss.net/priorities). Students with magnet status who apply to the pathway middle or high school for the current school/program (wcpss.net/pathways), will be selected for that school. Students with magnet status may also apply to other magnet schools and list them as higher choices than the pathway school. If the applicant is not selected for the other magnets, the applicant will be put in the applicant pool for your first choice school and will still be selected for the pathway magnet school.
