HIGHLIGHTS FOR THIS WEEK
- Monday, May 31 -- Memorial Day. No School for students or staff.
- Tuesday, June 1 -- 5th grade ELA EOG
- Wednesday, June 2 -- 5th grade Math EOG
Last Chance: 5TH GRADE (VIRTUAL) TALENT SHOW
Students can sing, dance, show off a sports skill, share a drawing, tell a story! The ideas are endless. All videos will be shared through FlipGrid.

NOTE:
- Parent permission is REQUIRED for a student to participate. (See the Google form to give this permission.)
- If there is any music in the performance, you must provide the words to the song to Marie Dexter at [email protected] for approval. Please use school approved versions of any songs.
- All videos will be reviewed and approved before the Talent Show. If there are any issues with a video, we will follow up with you before the Talent Show.
- The last day we will accept videos is June 1!!!!
June 7: Materials Drop Off for VA Students
Here are the materials to return for each grade level:
- K - Manipulatives sent home, head phones, calculators (in math bags), hot spots
- 1 - Math bags, head phones, calculators (in math bags), hot spots
- 2 - EL books, math bags, head phones, calculators (in math bags), hot spots
- 3 - EL books, math bags, head phones, calculators (in math bags), hot spots
- 4 - EL books, math bags, head phones, calculators (in math bags), hot spots
- 5 - EL books, math bags, head phones, calculators (in math bags), hot spots
You DO NOT need to return any ChromeBooks. The children will use these again next year. However, hot spots must be returned.
If you ordered a yearbook, you will pick up this yearbook during this materials drop off.

Contribute to the 5th Grade Wall of Well Wishes
However, we are welcoming everyone to send their well wishes. We will be hanging signs and posters on the fence at the tennis court. If you have a sign that you'd like to contribute, please drop off your posters at the school or arrange a pick up with Marie Dexter by Tuesday, June 8.

ADvocacy Alerts
The Wake County Board of Education recently submitted their proposed budget to the Wake County commissioners for their vote. You can review a break down of the proposal from here.
Some highlights are:
- The impact of the pandemic on the economic wasn't as hard as feared.
- The one-time stimulus from the federal government will have an impact across several years.
- WCPSS proposes a $1.9 billion operating budget for next year.
- We are still waiting on information about the North Carolina State budget for next year. In the General Assembly, budget conversations have stalled as the House and Senate have not been able to agree on spending amounts.
Legislative Updates
In the Senate, SB 172 , a COVID-19 relief bill, was signed by Governor Cooper. It includes $3.2 billion for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund.
