Just a reminder ... Tuesday is an Early Release Day. School dismisses at 1:45pm. Also, our May PTA meeting has been postponed to NEXT week, Tuesday, May 16 at 6:30pm. Again, this meeting will be in person and online. However, I hope you can attend in person. We must meet quorum (20 people in attendance) so we can vote in the PTA executive board for 2023-24. These ladies have already been meeting and working hard to plan everything for next year!
AT the PTA meeting, we will also be voting on a membership fee increase to $10. We must increase our dues because of increases by NC PTA and National PTA.
We hope the week ahead is joyful and fills your bucket as we celebrate our amazing teachers! Thank you for all you do for our community.
If you have any questions, please contact any board member.

The Positivity Project: Leadership
Did you know that The Positivity Project has family resources for each character strength? They are quick and easy to use. You'll find 1 quote, 1 video, and 3 questions to help you and your children discuss The Positivity Project's character strength of the week. The resources are organized by grade level: K-2 and 3-5, so be sure to check out both sets.
Here are the three questions from this week:
- Can you think of a time when it is important to be a leader?
- Who is a leader in your life?
- What are some qualities that it is important for a leader to have?
To access all the family resources:
- Go to https://posproject.org/p2-for-families/.
- Select your grade level.
- Enter P2 as the password.
- Select the character strength of the week.
Tuesday, May 16: May PTA Meeting; Last one of the Year
We will be celebrating our accomplishments from this year and voting in new officers for next year. We need a minimum of 20 people in attendance for this very important vote.
Below are the list of nominees, which was presented to general membership by the Nomination committee at the April PTA meeting. Nominations will be accepted from the floor before the vote. If you plan to nominate yourself or someone else, please contact Marie Dexter ([email protected]) and Sarah Wohldmann ([email protected]) so we can plan accordingly.
We will also be voting on a slight increase in membership fees. This increase is due to the fact that both NC PTA and National PTA are increasing their dues. (A portion of all our dues must go to the state and national levels.)
After the meeting, members of Macedonia United Methodist Church will hold a listening session. They want to hear your thoughts on what is needed in the Swift Creek community. It doesn't have to be school specific. Any and all needs of our community are welcome for discussion.
We hope you can join us for this important meeting!

WEd, June 7 9:30am: 5th Grade Ceremony
If you've never attended one of our 5th grade ceremonies, here are some details on what to expect.
Parking
Everyone should be aware that carpool will be extra busy that morning, since the ceremony starts at 9:30am. Families can park in front of the school and at the park. Please DO NOT park at the Swift Creek community center. You can also park at the Food Lion shopping center and walk over to the school.
Bring Your Own Chair
The ceremony will be in the park behind the school. 5th graders will have seats on the basketball court. We ask that you bring your own chair and sit in the grass in the field. You might also want to bring a water bottle with you, depending on the heat. The ceremony lasts about an hour.
After the Ceremony
After the event, don't leave right away. We'd like to get one last class picture.
Also, we will have refreshments (cupcakes or cake and water) for the students.
Want to Contribute to the Event?
Want to give a shout out to your 5th grader or maybe all the 5th graders? We are looking for posters and signs to hang along the fence on the tennis courts. Everyone is welcome to contribute. Please turn your posters in to the office by Tuesday, June 6.
Also if you have any baby pictures of your 5th grader, I'd love those too. Send them to Marie Dexter at [email protected].
