Can you believe that we are at the week of Thanksgiving? The old saying is so true. "The days are long but the years fly by!"
As I reflect on my blessings this week, I list near the very top how lucky our family is to be part of this special community. It is fitting that during this week of Gratitude, Swift Creek held its first Celebration of Brilliance on Wednesday. These celebrations always bring on a range of emotions -- from bright smiles to goosebumps to tears of joy. Our staff really knows how to honor and celebrate our students. Thank you to all the parents who came out to celebrate as well. Your presence means so much!
We wish you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving. We hope your days are full of tradition, laughter, and love.
We look forward to seeing you back at school bright and early on Monday, Nov 28. And remember that week is Book Fair week, so be sure to set up your child's e-Wallet during the break. It will make their shopping much easier!
If you have any questions, please contact any board member. We look forward to talking with you.

Highlights This Week
- Wednesday, Nov 23 - Nov 25: Thanksgiving Break. No School for staff or students.
The Positivity Project: Gratitude
Minutes from Tuesday's PTA meeting
Here are some highlights from the meeting:
- Second grade presented about what is happening in ELA, Science, Social Studies, and Math in their classrooms. Their enthusiasm was so awesome to watch!
- We approved two minor budget adjustments:
- A $500 line item was added to income and expense for the Cougar Counter.
- The expense line item for Spirit Wear was increased from $250 to $500 so that we could order new car magnets. (We are currently out of stock.)
- Mrs. Smith gave the Principal Report. She highlighted Literacy Night (which will be on Thursday, Dec 1 from 5:30-7:30), transportation issues, and gave thanks to everyone for all they do for our community.
- If your child rides the bus, Mrs. Smith shared two very important links:
- Here Comes the Bus APP
- Bus/Transportation Live Updates -- This page is updated every 15 minutes.
- Here Comes the Bus APP
Weekly wellness
Here are some photos from the last run club meeting, where we learned about pacing and running long distance.
Did you know that there are many family friendly 5K’s in our area?!
It’s a great opportunity to get outdoors and be active as a family. Also, many are for a great cause! It always feels good to do good!
- Check if your town is hosting a Turkey Trot or other future runs.
- Jingle Bell Run in Raleigh is a great one and there is a running category for kinds 10 and under.
If you are able to sign up for any runs over the holidays, be sure to take photos and please send email them to [email protected]
The Wellness Committee wishes the Swift Creek family a very Happy Thanksgiving! Thank you for all of your support!
Fall Book Fair: Nov 28 - Dec 2
Here is the link for our fair home page: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/swiftcreekelementaryfall22
At the fair, we will also have boxes of books from which each child will be able to select FREE book. These books are from previous book fairs or were purchased with Scholastic or PTA funds for this specific purpose.
Schedule
During Book Fair week:
- Students will preview the fair on Monday and Tuesday to create wish lists to bring home.
- Shopping days are Wednesday and Thursday.
Family Night is BACK! Thursday, Dec 1
This year we are once again able to welcome parents/families/caregivers to come shop the fair in person on Family Night! We have been unable to host a Family Night since the fall of 2019 and are thrilled to welcome everyone back to the fair! Family Night will be held on Thursday, December 1 and will coincide with Literacy Night at Swift Creek. All purchases through the Book Fair benefit our school!
Set Up an e-Wallet for Your Child
Students are encouraged to set up an e-wallet to shop the fair. If you have already set up an e-wallet, simply log into your scholastic account and activate if for the Fall Fair. If you have not yet set up an e-wallet, you can create one through the fair home page. The e-wallet link can then be shared with family and friends if they wish to contribute funds for student purchases.
Donate Funds to Teachers and Staff
Many teachers/staff have set up e-wallets. Please reach out to the teacher for their e-wallet information if you would like to donate funds for them to shop the fair. Teachers will also have wish lists available at Family NIght. If you need assistance to provide funds or make purchases for staff, please reach out to Book Fair Chair, Kristen Sherman, via email at [email protected] .
Volunteer Opportunities During the Fair
If you would like to volunteer during the fair, please sign up via the Book Fair home page or https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0B4BABAE2C7-fall
