Well, who saw last week coming?!?!? I hope everyone is safe from Michael. There were definitely some scary moments at our house. At least we don't have any make up days. Fingers crossed for a QUIET winter.
Hope to see many of you at the Fun Run on Tuesday!
Have a great week!
Marie
P2: Integrity
This week, the students will be studying the character strength of Integrity.
Check out this week's video (2 min).
It is Cafeteria Appreciation Week!
This week, please say Thanks to Meshell and our cafeteria staff for all the meals they serve our kids!!!!
Tuesday: Fun Run
Join us on Tuesday for the Fun Run! So far, we've raised $10,000, which is incredible, but we are $7000 short of our overall goal. Donations are due by Friday, Oct 19. If we reach our goal, we get to silly string Mr. Propst, but this will only be possible if we reach $17,000!!
The day's schedule is available at http://swiftcreekeswcpssnetptahtml.weebly.com/cougar-fun-run.html
Note: There has been a slight shift in time for 5th, 4th, and 3rd grades. 5th grade will now start at 9:30 (rather than 9:15). Consequently, 4th and 3rd grades will start 15 minutes later than originally posted. The updated schedule is on the PTA website.
We still need volunteers! Sign up today at Volunteer on the Day of the Event
If you provided oranges for snack last week, please check with your child's teacher to see if they need additional oranges. Some oranges might have molded during the time delay. :-(
Provide oranges (cuties) for your classroom's snack
If you are a volunteer, you can come sign in at the field. You don't have to go to the office first. Also, please review the volunteer instructions before Friday.(They are on the PTA site.) If you have any questions, please email Annie Pilz at [email protected].
Even if you don't sign up to volunteer, parents are welcome to come cheer on our Swifties! This is a fun event open to everyone!
Friday: Regular Day of School
Just a reminder that Friday is a full day of school for students. Originally, it was going to be an early release day but now it is a make up day for Hurricane Florence.
Help Swift Creek Read 2020 Books with the ReadVolution Program
Log your child's reading time and if you reach 880 minutes, you will receive 2 complimentary vouchers for a Carolina Hurricanes game.
If Swift Creek can read 2020 books, we are entered in the chance for a field trip to a Carolina Hurricanes practice! That would be such a cool experience for our Swifties! So far, we are at 251 books, but I know we've read A LOT more than that. Log your child's time today!
The link for logging your hours is on the front page of the PTA website. You can also access it from http://swiftcreekeswcpssnetptahtml.weebly.com/readvolution.html

Advocacy: PTA Position Statement on School Bond on Nov 6 Ballot
At Tuesday's PTA meeting, the PTA shared its position on the Wake County School bond that will be on the Nov ballot.
As many of you know, Swift Creek is scheduled to get a new building in the next few years. However, because of the recent deficit in funds from the state, this rebuild could be pushed out farther in the future than we hoped. For more information about that project, see the Swift Creek Project Details page on the Wake County Schools Website: https://tinyurl.com/scesRenovation
The Nov 6 ballot includes a Wake County school bond, which will not exceed $548M. This bond includes money for school renovations. Because of the direct impact this bond could have on our community, the Swift Creek PTA supports the passage of this bond referendum.
Here is how the money would be used:
- $140M – New schools
- $283M – Renovations
- $89M – Tech, Infrastructure, & Property Management
- $36M – Contingency and Management
See wakegov.com to:
- view your ballot, with a full list of candidates, all three bonds, and proposed change to 6 NC constitutional amendments
- find voting hours
On Nov 6, polling places will be open from 6:30am – 7:30pm. Wake County Schools are opening on a two-hour delay (which means that at Swift Creek school starts at 11:15am. The carpool line opens at 10:45.).
