It is a big week as the students in Cohort A in Plan B return to school. If you haven't watched Superintendent Moore's presentation to the school board from Tuesday, I highly recommend you take a peek. It answers many questions and gives expectations for your return.

Positivity Project: Creativity
This week in the Positivity Project, students will be learning about the character strength of Creativity.
What It Means
You co
me up with new and original ways to think about and do things.
Why It Matters
Creativity is associated with intrinsic motivation, meaning the process of creation is an end in itself. The work is not accomplished in order to receive an award. Creativity is also correlated with self-actualization, or fulfilling one’s talents and potential.
On a group level, creativity is vital. It helps us solve seemingly impossible problems, create something we never knew we wanted, or simply see the world in a new way. Technological examples include the printing press, refrigeration, electricity, automobiles and the internet. Just think of what we’d be missing without Renaissance art, Enlightenment thinking, Harlem Renaissance jazz, or hip-hop emerging from the South Bronx in the 1970s and 80s.

From WCPSS: Return to Campus Checklist
Here's what you need to do to prepare for your child's return to campus:
- Read the Return to Campus Guide to families.
- Use social stories for younger students or special education students to prepare for the changes in routine.
- Learn about expectations for face coverings. Face coverings of your choice are required for all adults and K-12 students at all times on school property or on school transportation. Face coverings remain strongly recommended for pre-K students if appropriate for that child.
- Learn about changes to meal service. Consider taking advantage of the free breakfast and lunch service for all students this school year.
- Learn about technology changes. Students with a WCPSS device should plan to bring them to school. Those bringing a personal device will need a signed BYOD Consent Form.
- Learn about the required health screening. All students should have their temperature taken every day at home before coming to school.
- Learn about how we're keeping school buildings clean and safe. (And some good news - the playgrounds will be open!)
- Read Student Accountability and Required Health Protocols and sign the acknowledgement page.
- Be familiar with what happens when there is a COVID-19 case on campus.
- Learn about the changes to live instruction times for students learning remotely in a rotation.
- Riding the bus? Complete the required attestation form and learn the new procedures to protect everyone’s health and safety. You can also sign up for our Here Comes the Bus app to track the location of your child’s bus every day.
- Want to change your registration for second semester? The middle/high school application is now open. Elementary school application is open Dec 2-9.
Donate to Our Staff Pie Exchange
We are wanting to show how "Thankful" we are for all of our Swift Creek Elementry Teachers and Staff. We are collecting STORE BOUGHT already MADE and COOKED pies for all of the amazing teachers and staff for Thanksgiving. We will put them on a table and all of them will be able to chose one to take home and enjoy.
Please make sure they are STORE BOUGHT and MADE / COOKED Pies. They can be any flavor you decided to buy, the more flavors the better. I know that a lot of grocery stores right now sell them for $5 or less.
Please drop the pies off at my house, 3908 Headwater Court, Raleigh 27696 or I can also pick them up from you anytime. I will set up the table on Monday (11/23), I would love to get them a day or two before.

Are You Interested in Helping in the School Garden?
The fall plants are in the ground, and although students will be returning to school soon, we need a Garden Gnome to keep an eye on the garden every week. The time commitment is small. You just need to check on the garden twice a week to make sure that things are watered and that the plants aren't being eaten by critters.
If you are interested in helping, sign up at

Don't be nervous! We are here to support you if this is your first time signing up!

You can still join the Swift Creek PTA. Information on how to join is available from the Membership page on the PTA website.

Recycling Updates
Since beginning our recycling program at Swift Creek through the end of August, we have collected 30lbs of squeezable pouches and 12lbs of plastic film!
Way to go, Cougars!
- If you are collecting plastic film or plastic bags at home, please remember to weigh these bags before you turn them in to the grocery store. Send the weight to Megan Holler at [email protected]. We are in competition with other schools across the country to see who collects the most plastic film.
- We are also still collecting foil-lined bags and squeezable pouches. We want to keep these items out of the landfill. You can drop these items off at Macedonia United Methodist Church on Saturdays from 8-10am or contact Megan about dropping off these items.
