The big news from last week was the community meeting about the new school building with WCPSS and the architects for the new building. The plans for the new building are gorgeous! Check out all the details from the meeting at New Building. The PTA will try to keep this page up-to-date as we learn more details about the new building. We also have a page for the temporary space that Swift Creek will occupy as the new school is built. Check that out at Swift Creek 2023-2025.
Lots of back-to-school events happening this week.
- Teachers will start lessons for the Positivity Project during their morning meetings.
- Our first PTA meeting will be Tuesday at 6:30pm. You can attend in person in the media center or we will also try to have a virtual option through Zoom. Use the link https://tinyurl.com/scesPTAMeet. This is our first time trying a hybrid meeting, so I cannot guarantee we will be successful. However, we will certainly try.
- On Thursday from 11am-11pm, we have Spirit Night at Ruckus Pizza in Tryon Village. You MUST show your flyer for us to get 20% of sales. A flyer will be sent home in this week's Tuesday folders.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact a board member.

A Wellness Note!
As we start a new school year, I would love to hear all of the great ideas for wellness and healthy living from our Swift Creek community. Together we can share healthy ideas, recipes, exercise tips, valuable nutrition information, encourage movement and volunteer for future run clubs or other fun activities. If anyone interested in joining the Healthy Lifestyle Committee, please contact Lisa Kropilak at [email protected] by Monday, September 19th.
Together we can promote a healthy mindset for our students and families.

Looking for Garden Gnomes
The school garden committee is looking for new members. The garden committee is responsible for the maintenance of these gardens:
- Our school vegetable garden, which consists of 3 raised beds behind the kindergarten building. The garden committee initiates Fall and Spring planting opportunities for students. Volunteers are needed to help on planting days. Volunteers can also help throughout the year as we try to get each grade level into the garden about every 6 weeks. The goal of the vegetable garden is to show students where their food comes from and to encourage healthy eating habits.
- The pollinator garden is an official Monarch Waystation. This garden doesn't require as much maintenance throughout the year, but it is a great place to take students and teach them the importance of pollinators in our environment.
If you are interested in joining the committee or volunteering in the garden during the school year, please contact Marie Dexter at [email protected] and she will add you to the garden distribution list.
This is really a great way to engage with our students. You will love hearing their questions and watching how much fun they have getting dirty in the garden!
Yearbooks are 10% Through Sept 30
Order before Sept 30 and get 10% off the $13.85 price.
Swift Creek 90th Anniversary: Did You Know?
Here are some pictures from the rebuild and the dedication ceremony in November 1992.
Swift Creek Anniversary Party: Sat, SEpt 24 11-1
There is so much to share about this special event!
What To Do!
- The gym will be the central gathering point for alumni. We will have a memory wall here and hopefully some speakers who will share their memories.
- The bus loop will have food trucks (burgers, hot dogs, and ice cream) and the fire truck from the Swift Creek Fire Dept.
- The field will be the central location for the event and primary area for the kids. Performances and speeches will be on the basketball court (more below). The field will have these areas:
- A photo booth
- Memory Lane where families can stroll through the decades. At each decades table, we will also have student projects that you will want to check out. Be sure to stop by the first table where you can grab a Memory Lane Scavenger Hunt for your kids!
- Stroll through Swifty's Story where students can follow Swifty's footsteps and read his life story.
- In the "Kids/Games" area, we will have these activities:
- tables with Legos so students can build their creations
- Giant Jenga
- Connect Four
- Big Tic Tac Toe board
- Original Works tables, where Laura Monaghan (the Original Works chair) will let parents know about this opportunity and students can create their artwork right there!
- Master Chang's Martial Arts, where students can break boards
Around 11:30, the SCES ambassadors will officially open the event with a parade on the track. This parade will end on the basketball court, where Superintendent Moore will say a few words.
Then immediately following, Dr. Barr will lead each grade level in a performance/activity. She said the kids have been doing a great job with their parts, so this should be one of the biggest highlights of the day!
At 1:00, we will return to the basketball court for the Cha Cha Slide to close out the event. Now folks don't have to flee after the Cha Cha Slide, but by having this at 1, hopefully, most folks will be there to participate.
Interested in Helping?
Our 90th anniversary committee has been working hard to plan all these activities. Now, we are looking for additional help!
- On Saturday, Sept 17 at 9:00am, we will be cleaning up the school grounds to prepare them of all our important visitors. We will be picking up trash around school grounds, pruning shrubs, whatever needs to be done.
- If you are interested in helping on the day of the event (Saturday, Sept 24), we could use folks to help set up, man tables, and for clean up.
The more hands we have, the more EVERYONE can enjoy this special event. So thank you for helping!
