We also came back this week to find that many of our families did some significant work to keep kids healthy. They brought eight of the picnic tables that were located around the campus to the courtyard outside of the cafeteria. A sun shade was installed overhead as well. Many, many of our learning spaces now have donated air purifiers. For all of these gifts of time and funds, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Two out of the three days this week, the weather was beautiful and enabled us to utilize this outdoor space for lunch. Anywhere from one quarter to one half of each grade level was sitting outside while the rest ate in the cafeteria. We will continue to do this as weather permits. On inclement weather days, students will eat in the cafeteria. In or out, they are seated no more than four to a table with students with whom they sat in the classroom. Students sit diagonally from one another and take masks off only while they are eating and drinking.
Health guidance changes frequently. WCPSS officials continue to work closely with health experts to create guidelines for all of our schools to stay open, healthy, and committed to the work of teaching and learning. As those guidelines are passed to us, the administrative team at Swift Creek makes sure that all staff here have a clear understanding of best practice expectations. If you have any questions about how your child’s teacher works to keep students healthy in the classroom, just ask! They will be more than happy to share with you what they are doing. Additionally, if you have any questions about school wide procedures, the administrative team would love to hear from you.
Last week, I shared on the “Morning Roar” broadcast a quote from Babe Ruth: “The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don’t play together, the club won’t be worth a dime.” Babe understood the dynamics of a great baseball team, but his words apply to a great school as well. I am so grateful for every staff member, parent, and community member who has epitomized the #BetterTogether mindset this school year and has been on the same team doing what is best for the whole Swift Creek community. Our students are better because of your combined efforts and positive attitudes. Have a wonderful weekend.
Yours,
Darrell Propst, Principal
