Did You Know?
In 2019, nearly 20% of waste sent to the landfill in Wake County was food waste, and over 40% was potentially compostable. Another 20% was items accepted in the curbside recycling programs.
Home activity: Take a peek at this video for kids about composting. When we return to school, we’ll get back to composting our lunchroom trays. In the few weeks that our
composting program was up and running, you helped divert 389 pounds of waste from the landfill, and instead made 39 pounds of compost!

Did you know that Wake County has a food waste recycling drop off program, along with other great resources for composting at home? Check out this link for more
information. http://www.wakegov.com/recycling/recycle/Pages/organics.aspx
See Food Waste Recycling Program Flyer - Note flyer lists site #10 as the 4 th drop off location, but this is now actually site #2, see http://www.wakegov.com/recycling/recycle/Pages/food.aspx)
We are Brighter Together
In honor of today being Earth Day, let us celebrate all the results from our recycling programs this year!
* In the few weeks that our composting program was up and running, you helped divert 389 pounds of waste from the landfill, and instead made 39 pounds of compost!
* We recycled 36 pounds of squeezable pouches and foil-lined snack bags.
* We also recycled 24 pounds of plastic film and bags! For participating in this program, we will receive a flower box. Keep saving that plastic! We plan to participate again next year!
Thank you to Megan Holler, our recycling committee chair, for spearheading these activities and showing us that every little action makes a BIG difference.
Letter From Swifty
Glad you liked my little Easter bunny hop. You’re quite the dancer yourself. Hope you’ve been staying busy and having fun! Take care!
Your friend,
Swifty
PS This week, I practiced my frog hop. It looks like I need a little more pep in my step. Maybe I should keep practicing!
