Thank goodness for a 3 day weekend. I talked to so many of you last week who were ready for a break. We know this is intense and challenging for you and for all of us.
You are doing amazing! Please remember to take care of yourselves and each other. Our community is so supportive. Check out the community shout outs in the email below.
If you need to talk or need anything, please contact any member of the PTA board. We understand and are here to listen or help! Together we will #ROARtoSoar.
Have a good week,
Marie, Deb, Sarah, Dana, and Lauren
Positivity Project: Teamwork
This week in the Positivity Project, students will be learning about the character strength: Teamwork
What It Means
You work well as a member of a group or team. You are loyal and sacrifice your individual desires for the greater good.
Why It Matters
For individuals, teamwork often means deferring or delaying individual accomplishments in order to ensure that the group maintains a high level of success. Their commitment
to the larger group effort makes them both good teammates and citizens.
Check out the new Family Resources section. The password is P2.
Monday, Sept 28: Teacher Work Day! No School
There is no school on Monday. It is a Teacher Work Day.
Monday is also Yom Kippur. We wish our families a peaceful fast.
Tuesday, Sept 29: School Board Meeting 6:00pm
The Wake County School Board will hold a special meeting to vote on the plans for returning to in-person instruction.
Superintendent Moore sent her proposal to the board at the School Board meeting last Tuesday. That proposal is available at https://www.wcpss.net/Page/45789.
If you cannot attend Tuesday's virtual meeting, no worries! I will try to take some notes, but more importantly WCPSS will send an email with an announcement.
Wednesday, Sept 30: Deadline for the 2020 Census

Saturday, Oct 3: Fun Run
We are HALFWAY to our $10,000 goal. Thank you everyone who has helped us raise almost $4000 this week!
Can you help us do it again this week? Because of this challenging time, we've cut our fundraising goal almost in half but we need to make this goal in order to fund programs, such as Cultural Arts, for this year and to be in good shape for next year.
The Fun Run is the Swift Creek PTA's primary fundraiser for the year. The money from this event goes to support staff assistance, cultural arts events (which we will have virtually this year), our recycling program, Reflections program, and family engagement such as STEM night.
You can help by donating today at http://tinyurl.com/SwiftyFunRun2019
For more information, see http://swiftcreekeswcpssnetptahtml.weebly.com/cougar-fun-run.html or contact Fun Run chair, Annie Pilz, at [email protected].
On Saturday, get your family outside for our virtual fun run!
All you need to do is run and/or walk for 20 minutes. (That is how much time our students would have on the track if we were in school.)
Need a little help? Here is a training routine from Ms. Graves! 1 min walk
30 sec jog
30 sec walk
45 sec jog
45 sec walk
1 min jog

Our theme this year is Amazon Adventures! Dress up in your Swifty spirit gear or maybe a Toucan! Be creative!
Share Your Videos of you training or on the day of the Fun Run:

Ms. Graves would love to see you in action!
You can also send pictures for the yearbook to yearbook [email protected] or post them to social media and use the hashtag #ROARtoSoar.
Recycling Updates:
- The NexTrex program is starting up again for the year. With this program, Swift Creek can earn rewards for collecting plastic film and plastic bags.
Here's how you can help!
- At home, weigh all your plastic bags BEFORE you turn them in at your grocery store.
- Email the weight to Recycling Committee chair, Megan Holler at [email protected].
Megan will record these numbers and submit them to the NexTrex program. Last year, Swift Creek earned a planter because of our donations!
Note: You can also drop these plastic bags off during the Backpack Buddies food collection on Saturdays 8-10am at Macedonia Methodist church or contact Megan Holler.
For more information about our recycling programs, see http://swiftcreekeswcpssnetptahtml.weebly.com/recycling-programs.html

Community Shout Outs!
In times of need, Mr. Rogers said look for the helpers. Swift Creek is so fortunate to have an army of helpers supporting us!
- Thank you to Macedonia United Methodist Church for their amazing donations this week! The church recently lost its preschool and so they donated so many of the leftover items to the teachers at the Creek. The tables in the media center were covered! Teachers got to go shopping for items that they might need in the classroom. There were hand puppets, cars, trucks, letters, a wooden kitchen, magnetic depictions of the systems in the human body, and so so much more!
Thank you
Macedonia United Methodist Church
for all you do for our school community from reading to donations to grounds clean up to supporting our families in need. You are there to help us #RoarToSoar
- Thank you to our families who continue to support the food drive for our Backpack Buddies. An extra special thank you to Food Lion Manager on Maynard Dr for selling us canned green beans for .13 cents each!
- Thank you to our Garden Gnomes for planting our fall garden at the school. Now, the students will have some plants to tend when we get back to school. (More information about this project coming soon!)
These times are challenging and exhausting, but it is so amazing to see how WE are supported by our community and how we can come together to #ROARtoSoar.
